Audubon Print of Pipiry Flycatcher Image
Offered is an historic chromolithograph print based upon the original art, drawn from nature, by John James Audubon (1785-1851) and taken from the renowned Julius Bien Folio of Audubon's art published in 1860.  The Bien Edition is often considered to be the largest and most valuable color plate book ever published in America. Commissioned by Audubon's two sons, each folio contained 150 color plates. Production of the folio book was curtailed due to the outbreak of the American Civil War, and consensus has it that fewer than 70 folios were  printed, thus making this edition of Audubon's Birds of America the rarest edition of all.

The plate is number 55, Pipiry Flycatcher.  It is in very good condition, framed and under glass. Plate 55 has a repaired tear toward the bottom, also not in the field of art.
